Actor Patrick Warburton is swapping the small screen for a new career path following huge success in front of the camera. The 60-year-old star is best known for his roles as David Puddy on sitcom Seinfeld, while also being the voice behind Family Guy character Joe Swanson.

Patrick's impressive CV also boast huge hits such as Rules of Engagement, Men in Black II and Get Smart. However, he is now trying out a new venture as he takes to the stage with his signature dry humour and stories from Hollywood.

His impressive routine has been selling out venues across the United States - and there's talk of a UK tour brewing. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror about how his career change came about, he said: "I got my feet wet doing this show called Letters From a Nut, where I was doing live stage readings of these letters with a friend of mine, who's one of the best Impressionists in the world.

"I would open the show with 10 minutes, which became essentially 10 minutes to stand up into 15 and I realised that for me, it was the most fun part of the show. So I walked away from that show and just decided I'm just going to do stand up."

From there, he was presented a chance to headline his own show. "I was a 99% no and a 1% yes," he confessed. "The 99% no was common sense, telling me you are not ready. But I went with the 1% because I realised I need deadlines.

"So I had about a month and a half where I wrote and I did 70 minutes to a sold out show to 500 seats and just kind of got rolling from there. So I've been touring ever since, and I've having a blast."

Opening up further on his newfound love for his latest career path, Patrick added: "The only reason I'm okay right now being a road weary comic at the age of 60 is because I've never known this kind of autonomy.

"I've always been told what to say, when to say, where to say it. I write all of my own materials so it lives and dies with me on stage. I do it when I went, where I went, and how I want. And I love that freedom and it's fun, bit edgy, not for the faint hearted. I leave a lot out there and it's been both a challenge and a total blast."

Explaining what fans can expect from one of his shows, he revealed: "You know, I've been married for 34 years and raised a family. I try to keep it as relatable.

"I never went into this to create something that, you know, like a night with. I mix it up with an awful lot of different things.

"Nobody wants to hear anybody get on stage and talk about how great, how wonderful life is. There's so much b****ing and complaining and p***ing and moaning [in his set]. I think it's fun."

Despite proving to be a success on the stage, Patrick isn't giving up his acting career just yet. He is starring in an upcoming series called Duster and also has no fears of controversial animation Family Guy coming to an end just yet. However, he did reveal he had to put a stop to his involvement in a certain scene.

He said: " "Listen, they [the creators] know that I'm a team player and I will do everything. There was just something, you know, being Catholic, even a bad Catholic at that, I felt [I couldn't do]. What I was trying to do was save them."

Patrick went on: "Just this [idea] was so beyond humorous in any way, and just incredibly offensive. I can't even repeat it. I just asked politely if I could be a non participant of that episode if they were going to do it.

"I remember being told by one of the directors, 'look, this is never going to get past the censors anyways'. And I go, 'I know, but if I agree to do it, then it does, then, you know?"

"Look, I've done so many things that have Catholic stuff in them, and they're hammering the Catholics. I do not have a problem with that. It was just, it was a specific sketch having to do with Christ and the cross and, just to me, you know, I just politely said please take me out of this episode."

He also revealed his impressive fundraising efforts after hosting his 15th annual celebrity gold event to raise money for St Jude Children's Research Hospital in the States.
